Martina Ruhsam

is a dance and performance theorist and artist currently based in Vienna. From 2016 to 2024, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen (in the MA program Choreography and Performance), where she completed her doctorate in 2021.

Her dissertation for which she received the NRW Dance Studies Award, discusses the role of more than human bodies in contemporary artistic choreographies.

Martina Ruhsam worked as a freelance choreographer in various collaborative constellations (mainly in Ljubljana and Vienna) and was deputy head of the theory department at Tanzquartier Wien from 2008 to 2009.

In 2011 she published her monography "Collaborative Practice: Choreography" at Turia + Kant.
